Factory flair at home
Fancy a travel back in time to the factories and workshops of the 20s? The production line rattles… Many things are still made by hand or just with the help of simple tools. Machines and furnishings have to withstand intense burden. It’s all about reliability and serving the purpose. Scrollwork is out of place. Instead, function-oriented design and tolerant material have priority. Furniture arises, that passes the test of time with flying colors – and that’s laying the foundation of a trend called Industrial Chic.
For a long time those items were only available on flea markets; meanwhile they also had their breakthrough into the design scene. The design philosophy of honest materials and furniture with a past is becoming more and more popular and conveys one thing in particular: durability.
A jewel as hard as iron
Metal furniture is perfect to bring the industrial look into your own home. The factory locker embodies a piece of proud industrial culture, symbolizes the time of economic miracles – and is definitely more than just a stable iron cabinet. It’s a place of the small, personal things in rough everyday work. The German company “Fabrikschick” had an old-style series rebuilt in a smaller size and more friendly coloration, perfect for the loft design furnishing.
Old instead of antique
Noticeable history, things with patina, lively instead of restored to death. That’s what it’s all about, that’s what the furniture gallery “func.” places value on. By the way, vintage style is completely sustainable – something that already has been produced doesn’t need any new resources today. Like the “Midgard” lamp, that already has delighted Walter Gropius and owes its development to the pragmatism of engineer Curt Fischer. A lamp illuminates
a room, but a workman at a machine shadows his own working space. That’s exactly what Curt Fischer wanted to change in 1919 and so he developed the “Midgard” lamp. The functional design of the multiple adjustable lamps brought the light directly there, where it was needed.
Storyteller
Clocks do not necessarily have to move with the times. That’s what Jools and Vince from “J&V – Finest Industrial Vintage Furniture” want to show us with their products. They are on the road in all of Europe to search for the old treasures of the industrial era in old factories, workshops and offices. Ingenious find: old office and factory clocks, like the SIEMENS wall clock. It has originally been built as a slave clock and only worked with a centrally controlled master clock. Jools and Vince work up those old clocks by cleaning and providing them with a battery-driven quartz movement. The time is now – for the charm of industrial buildings, furniture with history and the ticking of old times.
